• Saltmarsh - The most common.
• Saltmarshe - the old English spelling
• Saltmarch - apparently the U.S. Army changed one fellow's name and started the Saltmarch line.

Misspellings

Except when I'm in New Hampshire, where there are more than a few of us, I have this conversation all the time. Is it just me??

Them: "Your last name please?"
Me: "Saltmarsh"
Them: "I'm sorry?"
Me: Salt... marsh, just like it sounds."
Them: "I'm sorry, could you spell that, please?"
Me: "S A L T M A R S H"
Them: "Oh! Just like it sounds!"
Me: "ARGH!"

New Hampshire is easy:

Them: "Name please?"
Me: "Saltmahsh" (not misspelled - think New England accent)
Them (writing Saltmarsh): "Thank you"
Me: "Thank you!"

So without further ado, here's the most popular misspellings I've seen. Keep an eye out for them in your research.

• Sattmarsh
• Sallmarsh
• Saltmarch (be warned, there were Saltmarsh's who became Saltmarch's, though)
• Saltmars
• Seltmarsh

The stupidest one I've seen is my wife, Necia Saltmarsh, getting a piece of mail to Mezia Felzmars. She writes neatly, too. Oh well....
